Pine Plains
Pine Plains is a small crossroads hamlet on Route 199 in northern Dutchess County, set on open farmland beneath the 1,403-foot ridge of Stissing Mountain. The town dates from 1823 and keeps its outdoors close at hand: Thompson Pond, a Nature Conservancy preserve at the foot of the mountain, and Stissing Lake, where people swim in summer, are both a few minutes from the center of the hamlet.
